Starting on August 8th, 2015, Kawaihae experienced a brushfire that threatened local communities, businesses, and cultural sites. Over a week later, the impacts of the wildfire reached another precious resource: Hawaii's coastline.
HWMO produced this short PSA video demonstrating the mauka-to-makai effects of wildfire with footage and photographs documenting the post-fire floods negatively impacting the nearshore resources including coral reefs.
At the end of the video is an important message about how you can join HWMO in taking action to prevent troubling events like these.
Enjoy and make sure to spread this video and the messages in it to everyone you know!
